Debate No. 1 for Belmore South!

Published by natnat under Debates, School Events, Home, Fun Things

Hi everybody!

Today (29th May 2008), we had our first debate of the year for Belmore South. It was against Campsie, (not very far from us), and the topic was that Earth Hour is a waste of time. We were saying it WASN’T a waste of time, and guess what….. WE WON!!!!

Even though we were all above the time limit we still had very good arguments and we had very good rebuttals.

In this first debate it was: 1st speaker, me; 2nd speaker, Naomi; 3rd speaker, Ramiz; and team advisor, Celia. At Belmore South we usually have 2 extra people in the debating team but we haven’t found out who those two people are yet.

Hope we do as well as we did in this debate in our upcoming debates.

NAPLAN Tests Finally Over!!!

Published by natnat under School Events, Home

Hi everybody!

Whew! The NAPLAN tests are finally over. The NAPLAN tests were actually called the Basic Skills Tests in the past years. But this year the names been changed to the NAPLAN tests. NAPLAN stands for National Assessments Programs Language And Numearcy. For the past week, we have been doing our tests. The year 3 and 5 tests are the ones that really count but the year 6 tests still count towards their highschool selection.

We had numeracy, language, reading and writing tasks. The writing task was to be about something that was found. My story was about a 15 year old girl called Sarah. She found a instuction sheet leading to the House Of DOOM. When she got inside she was captured and was killed. Her sister Jane found the instruction sheet and even though she followed the instructions she could never find the House Of DOOM.

Still, some of the tests were a bit hard but some were really easy.

But still, everyone is happy about the NAPLAN tests being over. Even the teachers! YAY!

I’ll write later. Bye!

Ready, set, GOOOO!

Published by natnat under School Events, Home, Fun Things

Hi everybody!

In a couple of days, our cross country will take place. The 11 year old’s (that includes me) have to run 3 kilometres. So far, we have been practicing by having an endurance run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If we can’t do a day of running, we do it on Monday instead. Our endurance run is two laps of Area seven which is around half a kilometre. Some people get so tired just after two laps. If we just “translate” 3 kilometres it would be about twelve laps of Area seven, imagine that!

My best time for two laps ( half a kilometre) is 2 minutes and 42 seconds. It takes that long because it is in an oval and some of it is uphill. Some people are so fast that they can get around 1 minute and 30 seconds. So fast!

I will write a post on the cross country after we have had it. Hope to wrie more posts later on.

Bye!

The Annual Book Fair Has Once Again Arrived!

Published by natnat under School Events, Projects, Home, Fun Things

Hello everybody!

From April the 1st ’til April the 4th is the the Belmore South’s annual book fair!!!!!!

Why is it annual?

What happens there?

What do they have?

These are the questions you may ask.

No. 1: Every year our school has a book fair. Nearly always it is in April.

No. 2: All the previous years, teachers have sold books, notebooks, sharpeners, etc. But this year our prefects do tthis job!

No. 3: As I have noted above, the book fair has books (obviously), address books, notebooks, sharpeners, pens, pencils and so on.

All the money from this annual project goes either to the S.R.C (Student Representative Council) or the school. The book money goes to the school and all the other things (address books, notebooks, sharpeners, pens, pencils and etc.) we sell go to the S.R.C.

The Selective Test

Published by natnat under School Events, About Myself, Home

On March the 13th 2008, the people who want to go to a selective school will take the test. Sharon, Mikhaila, Nadine, Momtahina, Ramiz and me are taking it from our class. The test has three subjects plus a writing task. The three subjects are mathematics, english and G.A (general ability). There are 40 maths questions, 45 english questions and 60 general questions.

I hope I make it in and if I do I hope I can make some new friends as well if some of my old friends make it there.

I’ll post something else soon!

A Very Woeful Farewell

Published by natnat under School Events, Home

Finally it’s the end of the year! Time to move on for Year 6, (and more work for Year 5!). So many memories! It’ll be very sad for the Year 6’s because so many friends, they will not see for a long, long, time.  This is a message to all the Year 5’s at B.S.P.S – Good luck in the future and always be your self! And this is a message to all the Year 6’s that are moving to high school at B.S.P.S – Always remember, there is more to you than meets the eye. Also, remember to be yourself and good luck in high school! Happy holidays everybody!

The One and Only Amazing Water Slide!

Published by natnat under School Events, Games, Home, Camp, Fun Things

On the last day of camp, (if you haven’t read “How to NOT Get Injured at Archery”, the 31st of October) we had no activities except for………………. the one and only amazing water slide! We had to get into our swimmers and meet in the courtyard. After that we walked for around 10 minutes. The water slide was near the rock climbing place (which is around 9 - 10 minutes long…….. obviously). When we reached there we each got a mat or if you wanted to go in pairs one between two. On my first go I went with Sharon. After that I went with Souad, after that I went by myself and after that I went with Souad again. It was really fun! Angelo, one of our instructors said that if you pull up the front of the mat, you would go faster. On the curve of the slide, it felt like you were about to fall off! It was really fun! There were some students who weren’t going on the water slide, they were measuring who had got the furthest splash. Souad and I got the 4th biggest splash! The person who got the 1st biggest splash were actually 3 people. Because when Ranita was coming down after her was Jovan and Solomon who went a bit early and bumped into Ranita and they got the biggest splash! It was really funny and fun.

Well, that is what happened at the one and only amazing water slide!
